Ki Release

Origin:

Ki Release was discovered by Mark Kozuki in 2017.  He had taken a class the previous year which focused on treating nerves and releasing them by using light touch, pressure, and movement.   During the course and when practicing the techniques with his partners, Mark began to feel different sensations and releases than were being taught by the instructor. He felt “releases” of tension occurring in areas of the body where there were no nerves, and without needing to move his hands or use pressure.  There was a general feeling that something else was being released and that it wasn’t necessarily a physical structure.  Following the course, he began to incorporate variations of the nerve release techniques in his practice, all the while continuing to recognize a distinct difference in the methodology and results of his releases.  The recipients of this treatment would often feel subtle tingling, pulsing, or twitches at the affected area as tension was released.

The turning point in this journey occurred when Mark went to treat an athlete’s knee and felt tension around the area before even making contact with his hand.  There was a palpable field of resistance around her knee, and her leg began to twitch and react with the same release of tension as it had in previous sessions when he was physically touching her skin.  This was the confirmation that Mark had been treating and releasing energy, rather than treating structure.  Since that time, he has been refining this new approach to treatment.

Essence:

Ki Release is a very gentle, incredibly powerful treatment.  It is more akin to healing than therapy, with the approach of assisting one’s healing from the inside out vs. inducing therapy from the outside in.  It typically involves very light touch over an area of injury or tension.  Ki, the Japanese word for energy, can enter the body as the result of an impact/trauma or past injury and can become locked in that region, creating a heaviness or stiffness that limits normal movement.  As this trapped energy is released, patients will often experience some of the following: twitching, tingling, pulsing, waves, a sensation of bubbles flowing through the affected area, warmth, or deep relaxation.  Furthermore, some may experience a more profound response that could include various body movements or visible twitching, as seen in the video above. However, it isn’t essential that something is “felt” – some may not actively “feel” sensations during the treatment but will still have profound benefits.

There is usually an immediate decrease in the level of pain; however, the effects of this treatment are so profound that symptoms often continue to further improve over time following a session.  This is unique to this method, whereas most techniques like soft tissue mobilization and massage tend to be short-lived and the released muscular tension often returns within hours.

Relevance:

Ki Release is highly effective in treating acute injuries such as ankle sprains and knee sprains, concussions, neck and back injuries, etc. Essentially any condition that is limiting movement or function can be improved through Ki Release. It can aid one in expediting their healing process within a remarkably fast time frame.  It also works particularly well with chronic pains or issues that have had trouble healing over the course of time.  We have even had great success in treating patients with post-Covid symptoms and have treated different organs in the body that are suffering from blockages or have low energy flow.  Often, the release of the tension or energy blockage within a person can restore and facilitate their inner healing, especially when all hope in recovery has been lost.

If you or someone you know has been struggling with a pain or a problem and have been convinced that medication or surgical intervention is needed to solve the issue, or have been told “there is nothing else that can be done,” consider Ki Release.
